About
Birjand University of Technology, sometimes referred to as BUT, is a public university located in Birjand, the capital of South Khorasan province.
The foundation of Birjand University of Technology backs to 1996, when it was first established with the title of “Birjand University of Industries and Mines”.
At first stages, this university was under the supervision of “Iran University of Industries and Mines” and in terms of goals, it was twofold:
- Training specialists and increasing the efficiency of industries and mines inside South Khorasan Province.
With the Collaboration of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology along with Ministry of Industries and Mines in 2007, all the infrastructures were transferred from Birjand University of industries and mines to Birjand University of Technology. That was when the only University of Technology in Eastern part of the country commenced.
Mission and vision of Birjand University of Technology include: development of higher education, training specialist manpower, training students to be innovative change makers that will shape the future of the country by tackling challenges and creating a brighter future for all.
Birjand University of Technology is organized into following departments, all of which emphasize on science, technology and industry:

- Computer Engineering
- Materials Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
BUT is located on an 17-hectare campus that houses the University Main Building as well as the classrooms, BUT’s laboratories, the Shahid Chamran Convention Center, the central library, dining hall, sports center, football pitch, dormitoires, and the University Mosque.
